On My Own Time was created in 1974 by CNY Arts (then the Cultural Resources Council) in cooperation with the Everson Museum of Art as a platform for local businesses and organizations to identify, celebrate, and promote creativity among their employees.
Over the years, this program has featured the original works of thousands of members of the Central New York workforce who are amateur artists on their own time. It spotlights talented employees and their sponsoring companies and sparks a creative spirit in the workplace. This unique program is a recipient of the Private Sector Initiative Commendation awarded by the President of the United States.
On My Own Time‘s popularity and success has spread across the country, to cities where it has been replicated, name and all. On My Own Time is a program that makes artistic talents that might otherwise go unnoticed visible. It recognizes a most precious gift – creativity.

In 2018, Sarah Seib of TCGplayer spoke to CNY Central's Laura Hand about her employer's participation in the program. Please check out the video!
