The Role of Arts in Education

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

  ~Albert Einstein

Throughout this week, CNY Arts joined American for the Arts and others from around the country to spotlight Arts in Education. We featured only a small number of dedicated art educators in CNY that teach and inspire our students in the classroom and communities. But our region is blessed with so many more.

An education that integrates the arts and creativity is not only for those whom aspire to become professional musicians, actors, dancers, singers, or visual artists. Many successful business leaders and CEOs throughout the U.S. speak of the importance of creativity in business, and how engaging with the arts from a young age helped ignite the spark of their inner creativity.

Students by necessity learn to be creative, to lead, and to collaborate in the arts. Arts Education at its core encompasses the 4 c's at the heart of 21st century education skills: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These are the necessary skills to be competitive in a 21st century workforce and to solve some of our most pressing societal and global challenges.

Let us all continue to create, learn and grow with the arts to make CNY a stronger, more vibrant, and amazing place to live. Thank you to all the teachers, administrators and students for their contributions to the arts in Central New York-- your importance to our community cannot be overstated, and we applaud you all.
