Meet our Summer 2017 Interns

unnamed 1

Over the course of this summer, we’ve had three wonderful interns; David, Dashel, & Anissa who have helped us keep CNY Arts running smoothly.

David has been working with our community programs coordinator, Lizz Allers on managing the CNY Arts calendar and assisting with outreach for our holiday show, Dasher’s Magical Gift. He will be returning to the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam this fall to finish his Bachelor’s degree in Music Business with a concentration in oboe.

David hopes to work in either the double-reed products sector of the music business, or for an arts non-profit, focusing on marketing and outreach.

Favorite part of internship: “I thoroughly enjoyed being able to work on a wide range of projects from curating events for our bi-weekly newsletter, to calling and connecting with members of the community about Dasher’s Magical Gift. I can’t emphasize enough how positive and exciting this experience has been!

Dashel has been working with our programs manager, Liz Lane, on writing our large grants for NY State. His first year at Maxwell provided him with excellent theoretical tools, but his internship at CNY Arts has shaped these ideas with a new and broader perspective.

In the future, Dashel hopes to be involved in the Art, Art Education, or Nonprofit Management sectors.

Favorite part of internship: “Assisting CNY Arts with the Senator DeFrancisco Young Artist Scholarship has been one of the most gratifying experiences during my internship. Transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness are some of the lessons I will take with me after these wonderful three months.

Anissa has also been working with Liz Lane on the management of grant applications, the promotion of DEC grants programs, and the development of grant applications to NYSCA. Anissa is originally from Staten Island, NY and has a background in music and dance. Most recently, she completed her Masters in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky. As an undergraduate, she majored in music education and minored in music business at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

Anissa is interested in pursuing a career in the arts non-profit sector within the development, educational outreach, or arts advocacy fields. Her vision is to create and implement programs that provide accessible and inclusive opportunities within the arts.

Favorite part of internship: “I would say that visiting the Stone Quarry Art Park in Cazenovia was one of the highlights. Not only was this one of my first visits to an arts offering here in Central New York, but it allowed me to meet other arts managers and most importantly, experience first-hand, the impact that CNY Arts' work has had within the community.

We are so grateful for the contributions of these three to not only CNY Arts but to arts and culture in our region.
