Explore arts and culture throughout Central New York. Here are a few events taking place throughout the area that are a great way to enjoy the diverse array of events that take place throughout the area! (A quick breakdown of event info is at the bottom of the page!
Onondaga: SUArt Galleries presents Conceal/Reveal
This exhibition brings together the eclectic and powerful work of design, studio arts, and transmedia faculty. New and recent artwork from twenty artists working in a wide variety of media including painting, photography, drawing, ceramics, art video and site-specific installations will be showcased.
Madison: Jonathan Walker Inducted to the Hall of Fame
Merchant Marine Captain Jonathan Walker, an internationally recognized abolitionist who devoted his life to the cause of abolition risked his life many times to help slaves get to freedom. His hand branded with the letters “SS” for ‘Slave Stealer’ in 1844. In a poem that he wrote, Walker re-defined these initials as meaning “Salvation to the Slave”.
He will be inducted into the National Abolition Hall of Fame this Saturday, October 25th. Several descendants of Walker will honor him.
Oneida: Museum Monster Mash!
This Halloween the Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute is holding a Friday night party. There will be art and sculptures on display, a DJ, a cash bar, and Snacks! All guests are encouraged to dress up because there will be prizes for the best art related costume!
Oswego: Sybarite 5
This string quartet bridges gaps between eras with its eclectic music style. They are redefining chamber music with a style that ranges from Radiohead to Mozart. One reviewer states that, “ Their classically honed technique mixed with grit and all-out passionate attack transfixes the audience”. The performance is a must-see for anyone who enjoys great music!

Wednesday, November 12th at 12:15pm: Lunchtime Lecture with exhibition organizer, Andrew Saluti
Saturday, November 15th At 2pm: SUArt Kids families will participate in a musical instrument craft with Zeke Leonard, participating artist of the exhibition
*Exhibition events are free and open to the public!
What: A presentation by John Hoh, a free-lance writer who nominated Walker and a antislavery dinner catered by the Copper Turret. Walker supporters and family members will gather for the unveiling of Walker’s Hall of Fame Banner.
