Experience Video Games in a New Way!

Video games have been a part of American culture for over 30 years, will take over the Everson Museum of Art and the Landmark Theatre this fall in a double-dose of art, action, and awesome acoustics!

Part of a ten-city national tour, The Art of Video Games is one of the first major exhibitions to explore the 40-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking graphics, creative storytelling and player interactivity. The exhibition features some of the most influential artists and designers across five eras of game development, and 80 of the best games for 20 gaming systems. In the same way as film, animation and performance, video games are a compelling and influential form of narrative art. The Art of Video Games is organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Made possible by the County of Onondaga, administered by CNY Arts, Cannon Pools and Spas, Carrier and The Gifford Foundation. Tickets for the exhibition range from $5 to $10. Video Games Live (VGL) takes the gaming experience light years beyond with a “captivating, proudly bombastic show” (The New York Times) that combines video game music masterfully performed by Symphoria with the explosive energy of a rock concert in the Landmark Theatre on Saturday, November 9, 2013, 8pm. Tickets are $19 to $79 and can be purchased through the Landmark Box Office at 315-475-7980.

VGL was created by industry legend, composer Tommy Tallarico. The multimedia concert introduces new audiences—families, video game enthusiasts and non-gamers—to the symphonic experience with exclusive video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, well-known Internet solo performers, electronic percussion, live action and interactive segments. The “ingenious and fantastic” (Los Angeles Times) show spotlights the music that enhances the most gripping video game moments—rescuing the princess, winning the boss fight, saving the galaxy from aliens or defeating the undead—with performances from recent blockbusters and iconic classics. Video Games Live is made possible by the County of Onondaga, administered by CNY Arts.
