CNY Arts' Newest Board of Directors

CNY Arts, Inc., central New York’s regional arts council serving 6 counties and providing more than $1.5 million dollars in funding that supports artists and arts, cultural, and heritage organizations, announced today the appointment of Kristy Brightman Frame (Bond, Shoenick & King), Daniel Hammer (County of Onondaga), Adam McGivern (Cortland Downtown Partnership) and Lisa Clark - Sova (Canale Insurance and Accounting) and Daria Willis, Ph.D. (Onondaga Community College) to its board of directors.

“Each of our newest board members embodies the spirit of community and brings with them new energy, diverse talents and fresh ideas to the table,” said Stephen Butler, CNY Arts executive director. “Their experiences and proven leadership will serve CNY Arts very well.”

Dan Hammer was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. Dan began his career in Chicago, where he worked as a program manager with the University of Chicago, as a teacher with the Chicago Public Schools, and as an operations manager with a startup non-profit. Following his time in Chicago, Dan returned home to Syracuse, where he was the Workforce Development Program Manager for the Northside Urban Partnership, before transitioning to the Onondaga County Division of Management and Budget where he supported county departments with strategic and financial planning. Currently Dan is the Deputy Director of Purchasing with Onondaga County.  Dan holds a BA from Oswego State University and master’s degrees in both education and public administration. He lives in Syracuse with his wife, Kate, and two children.

Adam McGivern is the executive director of the Cortland Downtown Partnership and Cortland Business Innovation Center, managing bother organizations since 2008. He attended the University of New Orleans and graduated with a Master’s in Public Administration. He spent two years in the Peace Corps developing environmental education curricula.

Lisa Clark - Sova joined Canale Insurance and Accounting, LLC as Business Development Manager. She brings 30 years of accounting and tax experience to the organization. Sova will assist in streamlining the payroll and bookkeepping departments as well as working with the tax manager. Before coming to Canale Insurance and Accounting, Sova was senior accountant within the tax department at Grossman St. Amour CPAs, PLLC in Syracuse. Sova is orginally from Dallas, Texas, graduated from Baylor University with a degree in finance and accounting. She is now a resident of Oswego. Sova was elected as the new board treasurer for CNY Arts.

Daria J. Willis, Ph.D. is the new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Onondaga Community College. Her first day on the job was July 5. Willis comes to OCC from Lee College in Baytown, Texas where she served as Dean of Academic Studies. Prior to Lee College she was an administrator at Lone Star College in Houston, Texas. Willis has also been a faculty member at both of those colleges along with Florida A&M University and Tallahassee Community College. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Florida A&M University and a doctorate from Florida State University.
