Arts in Higher Ed Consortium's first Career Night
On Monday October 2nd, the Arts in Higher Education (AiHE) Consortium, in collaboration with CNY Arts, Le Moyne College, SUNY Oswego, and Syracuse University, held a job and internship fair for college students and local arts organizations. Careers in the Creative Industries took place at the Central New York Philanthropy Center, with opening remarks from President & CEO, Peter Dunn. Students from consortium member institutions were invited to attend this free event to network with local arts organizations and learn about entry level job opportunities, internships, and more.
54 students attended from Cazenovia College, Colgate University, Le Moyne College, Onondaga Community College, SUNY Oswego, and Syracuse University. These students from colleges in Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego counties met with leading professionals from 20 different arts & heritage organizations. These leaders included Executive Directors, Marketing Managers, Development Associates, Education and Outreach Coordinators, and more. The organizations ranged from Syracuse Stage, Glimmerglass Festival, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, The View Arts Center, and more. Meaningful connections were made, for both the students and the arts professionals in attendance. Students remarked that they either "...didn't know there were so many different types of arts organizations in the central NY area" and arts professionals remarked that they "...didn't know that there were so many people in the region interested in working in the arts." The event will be repeated in the future by the AiHE Consortium, since there was so much interest from both students and professionals.
