Spring Fest 2017 will show the film as part of the event that kicks off the weekend on April 21. The connection between Dan Silver and SIFF is a strong one: SIFF’s Artistic Director, Owen Shapiro, was Dan’s professor/advisor as he earned his BFA in SU’s Film Program.
“I always knew Dan would do well in the film world because of his talent, personality, and drive, ” said Shapiro, coordinator of the Film Program.
Growing up, Dan was obsessed with three things: sports, movies, and TV. Today, he’s an Emmy-winning producer, a master storyteller, and has worked on nearly every content format, making influential documentaries and telling cultural stories through the lens of sports. As the Executive Producer of ABC News Digital (since 2015), Dan worked on the film Queen of Katwe.
The film will screen at 8pm at The Palace Theater (2384 James Street, Eastwood) as part of Spring Fest 2017 (April 21-23.) It will follow the performance by the inspiring, international singer, Samite Molundo (7pm.)
A Patron Reception will begin at 6pm, in the Palace Theater Café, followed by Samite at 7pm and Queen of Katwe at 8pm. Dan Silver will talk about his work on Queen of Katwe following the film and then both guests will meet patrons as the reception continues.
To complete the Spring Fest 2017 weekend, sixteen hours of new films will screen and compete for a prize from Panavision (Saturday/Sunday, Apr 22 & 23). These new films also have a NYS tie: they were written, produced, or directed by filmmakers with a New York State connection – either direct or indirect. Panavision is the presenting sponsor of Spring Film Fest 2017. You can meet the filmmakers and join in Q&A’s after each screening. Tickets are available at the door ($10 each screening or a day pass for $20).
Tickets for the April 21st Patron Reception ($50) include the Samite and The Queen of Katwe programs, sumptuous snacks, and a silent auction (please call: 315-445-0692 to reserve.) If you want to hear Samite and see the film only, admission is $25 adults and $10 students at the door.
