Collaborative Marketing Information System

CNY Arts manages a comprehensive, regional Collaborative Marketing Information System (CMIS) featuring an Events Calendar, Directory, and Blog. Found on cnyarts.org, the CMIS has grown significantly since its inception, and has been supported by the IDEAS Collaborative Funding Partners, Visit Syracuse, the New York State Council on the Arts, Empire State Development, the CNY Regional Economic Development Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The CMIS serves Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties, and currently has 688 registered users.

Purpose

In 2011, the IDEAS Collaborative (Initiative to Develop and Engage Audiences in Syracuse) identified lack of timely notification as a key impediment to participation in the arts. Arts partners, audiences, and the general public believed that an easy-to-navigate, ad-free calendar, dedicated to arts, culture, history and heritage would provide a valuable tool to meet that need. CNY Arts was tasked with implementing a calendar system.

In 2013-14, with funding from NYSCA and the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council, CNY Arts undertook a regional cultural assessment and planning process, ENGAGE CNY. This assessment validated the results of IDEAS, and showed that the results were consistent across the six-county region of Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties.

Directory

Artists and cultural organizations register on the CNY Arts Directory. Users can describe themselves in their own words, supply contact information, link to web resources and social media, and more. When registration is complete, participants can submit event information to the CMIS in their preferred promotional language and using their own images.

Calendar

Once approved by CNY Arts staff, event information is published on CNYArts.org’s web and mobile sights. Event information is pushed to participating partners (Destination Marketing Organizations, Business Improvement Districts, Chambers of Commerce, etc.) and to individuals or organizations.

gotoCNYArts.org is supported by a significant integrated marketing campaign print which includes print, radio, television, web advertising, social media, and public relations.

Blog

We currently publishes 2-3  posts per week on the CNY Arts Blog, highlighting select events around the region, providing information about opportunities for artists, and linking to arts marketing resources in the area.

Partners

Currently, cultural event information is distributed to the following organizations. Partners can filter results to meet only the needs of their constituents, either by geography or discipline.

Regional Advertising

CNY Arts advertises CNYArts.org through an integrated advertising campaign that is comprised of billboards, digital, radio, print, social, television and event marketing.
