The Syracuse Community Choir, founded in 1985 by Director Karen Mihalyi, is an inter-generational community of people who gather to sing songs of peace and social/environmental justice. We believe that all people can sing and that building community at our rehearsals and concerts is an important as the songs we sing. There are no auditions. The membership includes people of varying ages, skills and backgrounds. We provide support such as transportation, brailed/large print words, childcare, practice CDs, and special help. Adults, teens and children rehearse separately, and then come together for performances. We have collaborated with many groups such as The Onondaga Nation, Dream Freedom Revival, Syracuse City School District, Pete Seeger and The Syracuse Peace Council. In 2012, the choir joined the Dance Theater of Syracuse, Syracuse Vocal Ensemble and the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Company to form The MOSAIC Collective, for mutual support and connection.
